On July 6, International Kissing Day honours the pleasurable act of kissing and the role it plays in civilisations all across the world. This International Day serves as a reminder to appreciate the basic worth of a kiss amongst loved ones, friends, family, and even pets. Additionally, a lot of companies, websites, and social media platforms use #INTERNATIONALKISSINGDAY to promote their goods and services.
Although there are many different kinds of kisses, kissing is usually connected to love sentiments. An “X” would be signed in the past before writing became commonplace. The signer would next swear to uphold the signature by kissing the X. (Is this the origin of the “X” sign, which stands for a kiss?)
Some cultures greet each other with a peck on the cheek. Other kisses, however, indicate kinship. Tender kisses can be observed when a parent or grandmother is with a little kid.
The act of kissing is timeless. 5% of adults over 45 lock lips at least 31 times a week, according to research. “Early Christians kissed one another in highly specific settings that distinguished them from the non-Christian population,” according to Michael Penn’s book Kissing Christians. The final line of I Thessalonians, “Greet one another with a holy kiss,” is the first Christian mention of the customary kiss. During prayer, the Eucharist, baptism, ordination, greetings, funerals, monastic vows, and martyrdom, the Christian ceremonial kiss, sometimes known as the “kiss of peace,” was employed.
According to a research on kissing published in William Case’s book The Art of Kissing,
Kissing passionately consumes 6.4 calories each minute.
It takes five minutes of walking, or almost four minutes of kissing, to burn off the 26 calories in a Hershey’s kiss.
Philematology is the more popular term for the study of kissing.
The sensitivity of the lips is 100 times greater than that of the finger tips.
Are you prepared to share a kiss? Check out this NPR interview about the science of kissing. International Kissing Day celebrations are held by organisers worldwide. Look for a gathering for those who are looking for a partner and those who already have one. Maybe someone from your neighbourhood will sponsor a “Kiss-in.” Before you ever link up with someone for a real date, it allows you to test drive their lips.
Use the hashtag #InternationalKissingDay to share virtual kisses on social media.
It appears that International Kissing Day was first observed in 2006. The purpose of the day was to commemorate the importance of kissing in our culture and to highlight the kissing that occurs between partners.
